Paper Airplanes tosses up College/Art Rock of mellow-epic movements in the span of a five minute song (“The Fences”). 2007’s Boyhood seems orchestrated like Final Fantasy’s He Poos Clouds while the percussion propels each composition forward like Anathallo. “PDA” begins with George Winston/New Age piano that grows to a rocking, White Rabbits piano/drum smash. In the center of the album is the instrumental title track acting as an overture for the following track, “Applachia,” a Sufjan Stevens-like banjo song-story about being mysteriously drawn to the rounded mountains of the East.

P.S. I always expect a lot—maybe too much—when I see things come from 54º 40′ or Fight! Records because I expect it to be as good as the band 54*40. However, being that 54*40 is one of my favorite bands ever, that’s quite a high standard.
